“Am I Asking For It explores the victim-blaming mentality that many have towards survivors of sexual abuse. It is a testimony to the numerous cases of rape victims being blamed for their own trauma, using excuses of what they were wearing or how much makeup they had applied. This piece is meant to highlight the ways in which we discount the experiences and survivors of sexual assault, and confront our own biases regarding whether or not they are ‘asking for it.'”
Jayden Couper (she/her) is a multimedia artist still trying to find her groove in the art world. She is a high school student in Toronto, Canada who likes to paint, draw, and work with textiles. She hopes to tackle big ideas in her work that are important to her, and help others get inspired to talk about these topics and have open discussions about them. Jayden hopes to continue making art in the future and is excited to grow, learn, and immerse herself into what she loves.
